Public Records Reveal Ransom Messages Sent After Nancy Guthrie Disappeared

By Investigative Reporter Tammy Rose

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, during the early morning hours of February 1, 2026. Six months later, publicly released investigative records continue to provide insight into one of the most unusual aspects of the case.

Among the documents released are messages that appeared to demand a ransom and later claimed Nancy Guthrie had died. The messages became part of the investigation and remain included in the publicly released records.

Ransom Message Demanded Bitcoin

According to publicly released records, one message claimed Nancy Guthrie had been kidnapped and demanded a multi-million-dollar Bitcoin payment in exchange for her safe return.

The message included a deadline, threatened harm if payment was not made, and referenced details about Nancy Guthrie’s home. Investigators documented the message as part of the case.

At the time, there was no public confirmation that the claims made in the message were true.

Second Message Claimed Nancy Guthrie Died

A second message later claimed Nancy Guthrie had died shortly after being taken.

The message stated that her death was not intentional and expressed sympathy to her family. It also claimed she had been buried in a natural area.

Authorities included the message in the investigative file that was later released as a public record.

Investigators Examined the Messages

Law enforcement reviewed the messages as part of the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

Publicly released records show the communications were preserved as evidence, but investigators have not publicly confirmed who authored the messages or whether any of the claims contained in them were accurate.

As with many criminal investigations, detectives examined numerous leads while working to determine what happened.

Why These Records Matter

The release of investigative records provides the public with a better understanding of the evidence reviewed during the case.

While the messages generated significant attention, they represent only one part of the overall investigation. Any conclusions about who sent them or why should be based on official investigative findings rather than speculation.

As additional records become public, they may continue to provide new details about the investigation.

Two Deadly West Houston Crashes Shut Down I-10 and Highway 6

Two Deadly Crashes Snarl Traffic Across West Houston

Two deadly crashes kept first responders busy across west Houston Wednesday morning, shutting down major roadways and creating long traffic delays.

The first crash happened around 5 a.m. on the inbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Eldridge Parkway.

According to authorities, an 18-wheeler and another vehicle collided, causing a fire. Two people died at the scene.

Investigators closed all inbound lanes near Dairy Ashford while crews worked to clear the wreckage. Traffic backed up for several miles, stretching toward Kingsland Boulevard during the morning commute.

Police pursuit ends in fatal Highway 6 crash

A second deadly crash occurred on Highway 6 southbound near the Westpark Tollway.

Photos from the scene show heavy damage to both an HPD patrol vehicle and another vehicle following what authorities described as the end of a police pursuit.

Officials confirmed the incident was fatal. Based on available information, the deceased was not the Houston police officer. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the person who died or the events leading up to the crash.

The investigation remained active as officers documented the scene and worked to reopen the roadway.

Investigation continues

Authorities continue investigating both crashes. Additional information, including the identities of those involved, is expected after next-of-kin notifications and the completion of the preliminary investigations.

HOUSTON — Airport emergency crews responded after a private jet left a taxiway and entered a grassy area at William P. Hobby Airport.

The incident happened on June 15, 2026. Storm clouds moved across the Houston area. Photos from the scene show the aircraft stopped near the edge of a grassy area. Airport rescue vehicles responded.

A witness told Investigative Reporter Tammy Rose the aircraft appeared stuck after leaving the paved surface. The witness said crews tried to back the jet out. However, the aircraft’s weight may have prevented it from moving.

Officials reported no injuries. Photos from the scene showed no obvious major damage to the aircraft.

Airport rescue crews remained at the scene while personnel evaluated the situation.

Investigators have not released a cause. Officials also have not said whether weather conditions played a role.

Investigation Underway After Body Found in Buffalo Bayou

Rising Number of Bodies Found in Houston Bayous. Are the Cases Connected?

Homicide investigators respond after a body was found in a Houston bayou, adding to rising public concern. HPD and CSI are on scene investigating , but authorities have not released the victim’s identity.

Where the Body Was Found

This is the latest in a series of Houston bayou body recoveries over the last several years according to HPD. The man was pulled from the Buffalo Bayou near 8300 High Level Rd, Monday morning near the Port of Houston.

The case adds to growing concern over the number of bodies recovered from Houston-area waterways in recent years. According to Harris County forensic records, nearly 200 bodies have been found in local bayous since 2017. In the past two years alone, recoveries reached some of the highest totals on record, with 35 bodies found in 2024 and 34 in 2025.

Officials say cases vary widely — including drownings, accidents, suicides, homicides, and undetermined deaths — and investigations are handled individually. Authorities have not said whether this latest homicide is connected to any other cases.
